ALONE TIME
An Solo Dance Performance & Creative Process Art Gallery
ALONE TIME went through several iterations before landing where it is now. After hearing my friend John Love’s Corontina Fantasia during the first year of the pandemic, I started picturing a dance for film that would be shot in my house by my brother, Sam (he didn’t know he would be filming it, but that was the vision). It was to be an insight into the ups and downs of living alone during the pandemic. As lockdown became more distant, though, my concept for the piece broadened. I started pulling inspiration from different phases of my life that have been shaped by spending time alone or feeling alone. Over the years, I collected nuggets of experiences that might find their way into this piece, and, this year as I was actively planning the performance, I added to the pile the different facets of my current life that involve needing, filling, resenting, and cherishing alone time. Though they didn’t know about the first version of the piece I had envisioned, both John and Sam were involved in making this version possible. Sections from John’s Corontina Fantastia are featured in the piece, and Sam shot all the photographs used to promote the event. This show would also not be possible without the talents of Nathan Schroeder, who created the lighting design and runs lights every performance. I spent a lot of ‘alone time’ this year creating this show, but I am exceedingly grateful the the collaborations that went into making ALONE TIME happen.
ALONE TIME has been rolling around in my brain for close to four years, and, now that it’s finally going out into the world, I am so excited to share it with you. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed making it.

creative process art gallery
The ALONE TIME Creative Process Art Gallery is not meant to be an expertly crafted collection of professional level poetry and photography; the gallery is an honest look at the building process of and inspiration for the performance work. Think of it less as a polished display of visual art and more as the ramblings of my brain in gallery form. Some sections of the performance were inspired by very specific events in my life; others were more abstract concepts. As you walk through the gallery, you’ll see notes I jotted down for myself over the last year, free word association exercises I used during the choreographic process, photo evidence of my gardening obsession, as well as photos from early-pandemic days when I was taking one to two walks per day. Some of the items in the gallery are obviously represented in the performance while others contributed to the broader landscape of what ALONE TIME is in my mind.
